Treatment Frameworks to Assist your Growth and Healing

Schema Therapy (ST): Dr Sonia Zammit is an Advanced Accredited Schema Therapist.

A comprehensive framework which recognises the importance of therapeutic relationship and Includes a range of interventions including Interpersonal, Cognitive, Emotion Focused, and Behavioural interventions. 

The psychotherapy was originally developed by Dr. Jeffrey Young to support complex personality disorders, however research has shown its effectiveness in supporting a number of mental health and wellbeing difficulties.

It is expected to involve a moderate to long term period of accessing support process. Overall, it is an integrative approach that brings together elements from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Attachment and Object Relations Theories, and Gestalt and Experiential Therapies. Schema therapy Allows for integration of clients prior learning and strengths that may have come from treatment with other therapeutic approaches. 

Dr Sonia Zammit has an Advanced Schema Therapy Accreditation with the ISST.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR):

An advanced therapy approach which uses eye movements or other bilateral stimulation to help people approach distressing memories, traumas and other psychological difficulties.

It aims to build more positive thoughts and beliefs about yourself and reduce the physiological, emotional and psychological distress that was linked to the distressing event/issues.

Medicine Assisted Therapy

Sonia Zammit is Accredited Therapist with Monarch Mental Health group to work with Authorised Prescribers to provide Medicine Assisted Therapy within a clinical setting.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT):

A psychological treatment approach that has been found to be effective for a number of difficulties and is based on the theory that people’s difficulties are influenced by their perceptions and unhelpful thoughts and beliefs.

Treatment involves looking at thought patterns and exploring ways to adapt unhelpful thinking and related behaviours as a way to help them feel better. It is generally a short to medium term, structured, present-oriented approach.

Mindfulness

Can be viewed as a mental state that encourages focused attention, with an approach of awareness, curiosity and non-judgement. Applications in therapy can vary and are integrated with other therapy approaches. It has been linked to supporting wellbeing, building psychological and emotional resilience, reducing stress, increasing self awareness and supporting emotional regulation.

Acceptance And Commitment Therapy (ACT)

An approach which teaches multiple skills, including mindfulness and diffusion, to help people build their psychological flexibility, identify their values and begin to live in ways consistent with their values.
